Att binda upp hästen vid en fjällbjörk, lossa sadelväskorna, göra upp en eld och servera kokkaffe åt gästerna – iförd chaps och cowboyhatt, med fjäll och urskog i alla riktningar så långt ögat når. Då mår jag bra. Och gäster, hästar och ranchhund verkar stortrivas också!

Sommarens första guidepraktik gjorde jag på hästranchen Trumvallens Fjällridning utanför Vemdalen. En riktig flickdröm som legat vilande i många år, sedan jag som tonåring ledde turridning på Stall Dalhem på Gotland (min födelseö) på somrarna. Jag fick bo fint i en egen stuga nära ranchen. Den nyinflyttade varmblodstravaren Denver fick jag ha som min egen att träna på fjället under tiden jag var där. Det är mycket som hästarna på ranchen ska klara av, fösa kor, ta sig fram i teknisk terräng i obanad skog och på fjället och gå stabilt i alla gångarter. Denver har en bakgrund som travhäst och hade mestadels blivit riden på enklare underlag samt inte galopperat så mycket. Kor och renar var också nytt för honom så det blev en brant inlärningskurva!

Även för mig blev det en hel del nytt. Johan och Hanna som äger gården var fantastiska på att våga lämna över så det dröjde inte länge innan jag stod med verktygen i hand och satte staket, körde sexhjuling och hästsläp med mera. Allt iförd arbetskläder såklart som bestod av jeans, skjorta och cowboyhatt – i sann westernanda. Johan som drivit gården sedan nittiotalet är mån om att det ska vara en enhetlig och genuin känsla för besökarna och det går igen även i inredningen i stall och gäststugor.

I början var jag med som assisterande guide under turerna och efter den första veckan ledde jag även egna turer med gäster. Johan äger själv en stor del av marken kring gården vilket gjort det enklare med tillstånd för turerna. Under min tid på ranchen gjorde vi både kortare turer på några timmar, heldagsturer och turer med övernattning på fjället. Jag var även med och jobbade på en ranchvecka då en grupp förutom fjällridningen fick vara med och testa på att flytta koflocken mellan beten på fäbovallarna. En riktigt rolig och actionfylld upplevelse för alla inblandade. Ungefär var tredje dag flyttas korna till ett nytt bete. Då gäller det att vara en grupp samspelta ryttare för att få med sig koflocken åt rätt håll genom skog och mark.



OMRÅDET KRING TRUMVALLEN
Hästranchen ligger i ett naturskönt område med nära upp till kalfjället och Vemdalens högsta topp Oxsjövålen. På vägen upp dit red vi ofta obanat genom skogen för att göra så liten åverkan på naturen som möjligt. Att inte följa samma stig varje gång är både roligt och utmanande och ställer krav på att du som guide kan ditt fjäll. Att jag ofta var ute och sprang mellan ridturerna bidrog till att jag snabbare lärde mig området och vilka blötområden och fjällbjörkskogar som gick bra att ta sig fram i.

 

FÖR VEM?
Fjällridning passar för många! Bland gästerna jag träffade på turer och ranchveckor var det ett stort spann av både ålder, erfarenhet och bakgrund. En del hade aldrig suttit på en häst tidigare, många hade ridit som yngre och ville återuppleva den magiska närvaron som hästar ger och några hade lång erfarenhet och tillochmed egen häst men aldrig testat att rida i obanad terräng med westernsadel.

Nu är sommaren 2017 över och det blev en hektisk säsong för Hanna och Johan med många fullbokade turer. Ranchen är öppen för dagslånga och kortare turer till och med v.45 och tar sedan ett uppehåll fram till v.50 då den öppnar igen för kortare ridturer och slädturer. Boka din tur här!
