Jag mötte Molly i hennes rätta element, på fjället! Min kompis Klara skulle dra vidare till Storulvån och jag hade en dag kvar av ledighet på STF Sylarna Fjällstation innan jag behövde springa tillbaka till Helags för att fortsätta guidepraktiken. Molly och hennes vän som var på besök hade också ställt in sig på att gå Syltraversen så vi tog sällskap. Det visade sig vara en riktigt god idé – bättre guidning till området kunde jag knappast ha fått då Molly nu gör sin andra säsong som guide på Sylarna. Sommartid guidar hon gäster upp på Storsylen.

Molly är uppvuxen i Hyssna, en liten by knappa timmen utanför Göteborg. Hon växte upp i ett hus i skogen med mamma, pappa och lillasyster och naturen fanns alltid runt husknuten.

Hur började ditt friluftsintresse?
Jag har nog alltid varit intresserad av friluftsliv och att vara ute. När jag var liten lekte jag alltid i skogen, var vid havet eller sov i kojor. Jag minns första gången jag och en kompis drog ut på upptäcksfärd, vår egen expedition. Vi var nio år och skulle ro ut i min lilla uppblåsbara gummibåt till en ö i sjön vi brukade bada i. Vi hade med tält, sovsäckar, en kylbox med pannkakor som mamma hade stekt åt oss och massor av spel. Det behövdes tre vändor ut till ön (ca 20 min enkel väg). Där ute på ön kändes det som att det var vårt alldeles egna ställe. En pytteliten ö där det i princip fick plats med ett tält och en grillplats och där ingen annan var. Man kände sig väldigt fri och kunde göra vad man ville. Jag tror att den utflykten startade något inom mig, kanske inte direkt, men något som sen har vuxit fram långsamt. Det är i alla fall så jag känner nu varje gång jag är ute. Det måste finnas en anledning till att jag kommer ihåg just den gången så starkt.

På gymnasiet valde jag en linje som Adventure och finns på Bäckängsgymnasiet i Borås. När jag gick var det en naturvetenskaplig linje, så man fick full naturbehörighet plus en kurs i marinbiologi. Utöver det var nästan alla våra individuella val av kurser redan förutbestämda med inriktningar som bland andra multisport och friluftsliv. Vi fick göra allt ifrån att ta grönt kort i klättring, testa på klippklättring utomhus, fjällvandra både sommar- och vintertid och ta dykarcertifikat, till att vara ute en eftermiddag och spela freesbee golf, fiska kräftor, bygga risflottar och bo i vindskydd eller rida islandshästar. Vår lärare ville nog ge oss en bred grund och låta oss testa på så mycket som möjligt för att kunna hitta det som vi var intresserade av. Det är lätt tre av mina bästa år!

Hur kom du på att du ville bli Fjälledare och hur valde du utbildning?
Jag hade en pojkvän under gymnasiet som hade hittat Hållands Folkhögskola (nuvarande Åredalens Folkhögskola) och kollat på deras Fjäll- och friluftslivslinje med ledarskap. Jag hade egentligen tänkt plugga på ett universitet i USA direkt efter studenten men tyckte att det som han skulle göra lät väldigt roligt. Speciellt eftersom vi skulle kunna göra det tillsammans och även att ha ett år för att bara bygga vidare på det som vi testat på under gymnasietiden. Att det var en guideutbildning och att man kunde jobba med detta förstod jag nog inte förrän efter några månader efter utbildningens början.

Efter utbildningen sökte jag jobb för en sommarsäsong som fjällvärd på Storulvåns fjällstation. Jag hade haft praktik där under vintersäsongen innan och tyckt att det var helt fantastiskt. Man hade härliga kollegor och kompisar och fjället direkt utanför dörren. Efter den sommaren åkte jag och en kompis ut på en långresa, men jag märkte mer och mer hur mycket jag pratade om fjällen och insåg att jag saknade det otroligt mycket. Drygt ett år senare landade vi i Sverige igen och jag började strax därpå med en vintersäsong. Sedan dess har jag varit fast inom STF (Svenska Turistföreningen) och nu är det min andra säsong som guide på STF Sylarnas Fjällstation.

Jag vet att du har massor av idéer på andra guidningar man skulle kunna göra med Sylarna som bas, vill du berätta om någon?
Idéer som jag har är främst vinteraktiviteter just för att det är det som är färskast i minnet. Än är vi bara i början av sommarsäsongen. Det hade självklart varit kul att få guida lite mer toppturer med mer fokus på skidåkning där gästerna har randonéeutrustning. Att kunna erbjuda ett paket med två övernattningar, frukost och lunchpaket och en heldag med guide som visar de bästa åken för dagen vore roligt. En tur som jag själv tycker hade varit fantastisk att kunna ta med gäster på är höga vägen till Nedalshytta, den norska DNT hyttan på andra sidan Sylmassivet. Två dagar med guide, många höjdmeter och bra åkning. Självklart är detta en mer utsatt och väderberoende tur, men man kan ju alltid drömma stort!

För- och nackdelar med att arbeta säsongsbaserat?
Fördelar är så klart att man kan få det bästa av två världar. Fjäll och bra vinter men även lite sommar och västkust i mellansäsongen i maj när stationen är stängd. Jag hinner resa mycket i mellansäsong och träffa vänner hemifrån. Nackdelar är så klart att vintersäsongen är alldeles för kort för att det egentligen ska vara hållbart. Det är väl det enda.

Har du några egna äventyrsprojekt på gång?
Som vi snackade om under Syltraversen så har man ju alltid nya äventyr som planeras och dröms om. Det närmaste nu är att jag ska upp till Lofoten med en kompis för att klättra i två veckor. Det känns extra roligt då jag vet att min kompis är riktigt duktig på trad (traditionell klättring på egna säkringar) och jag är mer sportklättraren i sällskapet. Jag tror att vi kan lära mycket av varandra och pusha varandra. Vi är starka på olika saker men ligger ändå hyfsat jämt. Sen så har vi många liknande stora drömmar, till exempel att någon gång besöka platser som Patagonien och Yosemite!

Vad gör du om fem år?
Svåraste frågan hittills – jag vet ju knappt vad jag gör nästa vinter! Om jag får drömma så skulle jag vilja utveckla mer egna färdigheter och kunskaper i det jag vill göra på min fritid men sen också känna mig såpass säker för att kunna guida mer avancerade turer. Jag skulle vilja gå fler kurser, speciellt inom alpinklättring. Kanske jobba i Norge eller Alaska där bergen är lite mäktigare och framförallt fler! En sak som jag skulle vilja fördjupa mig i är första hjälpen i terräng. Att kunna göra så mycket som möjligt med så lite som möjligt. Jag har alltid varit intresserad av vård och ville bli ambulanssjukvårdare under en period i högstadiet, så det hade varit kul att göra mer av.

Något annat du vill lyfta eller berätta?
Det bästa med jobbet är att man nästan till 100% får jobba med glada människor. De är oftast på semester och vill ha en bra, rolig och kanske även utmanande upplevelse. Det är inte svårt att ge dem häftiga upplevelser med tanke på naturen här i Sylarna men det är faktiskt oftast de små tipsen och trixen som gör hela turen. Att till exempel fika eller luncha i en vindsäck i snöstorm kan vara en lika stor upplevelse som att nå en topp, för någon som aldrig testat på det tidigare. Det bästa är när det knappt känns som att man jobbar, mer som att man är ute med ett gäng härliga människor som man nyligen lärt känna. Då är det som allra finast!
